Shelter is the song Brian has been plugging the most in interviews.

"cats u are the 69 of the Dot org."

"That doesn't make any sense, future +caats19."

No hard feelings to the benfolds.org unless that's what you want in which case you can all go smoke a ten foot dick? Is that in the spirit? God bless you all.

more tidbits:

Think About the Days - intro. really sad. No words. Pretty. Probably a tribute to loved ones. Descending inner harmony sounds kind of Beatle-esque. Simple piano and a flugel horn.

Isn't It Time:
despite some weird/cool vocal effects (or it could be my watermarked mp3s), nice Brian v Mike song. Uke and innocent 60s bass hook. Kinda reminds me of Almost Summer. 2 chord vamp, Sha na na... (Back to class, etc) Really innocent and dumbed down. They try to make it a little complex towards the end, but it doesn't ruin it. It's like, imagine if "A Friend Like You" didn't get butchered after the 2nd verse. A little redemptive.

The Private Life of Bill and Sue:
a Brian solo tune about tabloids. Not great. Kinda sounds like Belles of Paris.

Shelter - A 'way things used to be' song, lushy produced with harpsichord, bari sax, and the full wall of psound production.

on the suite at end:
"From There to Back Again sounds like Al. Quite impressive vocal.
Tons of vocal oohs and ahhs that sounds fantastic. They do go for the Pet Sounds thing. It's definitely a downer tune. Lots of space. The hook of the title is nice. They try to make it a little complex at the end, again. Bringing Brian in on a break. There is a clear pt. 2 to the song that is more stringy with Brian. And then a pt. 3 that is kind of High Llamasy."

(um. ironic to call a beach boys song "high llamasy" lol)

on Pacific Coast Highway:
sad Brian ballad. Big percussive piano sound.
I like this one.
lots of farewell/goodbye/ you take the high road spirit.
"My life/ I'm better off alone/ My life/ I'm better on my own."

album ender Summer's Gone:
It starts with an ominous presentation of some Smile instruments, played this time in consonance. Windchimes and tack piano. It's a very easy chord progression that is played with a warm ambient ensemble (including winds). Jon is going to cream for this. It's not that far from a new romantic ballad. The theme of the song is that things have passed. With really no other comment or counterbalance from Brian.
"the nights grow cold/ it's time to go"

"cats u are the 69 of the Dot org."

"That doesn't make any sense, future +caats19."

guy posted about strange world:

"Strange World is really awesome.
Folks might take this the wrong way, but it sounds like Owl City, or the Peter Gabriel music for Up. It's the bubbly, contemplative thing. With tympanies.
It's got this 'wide eyed' Love and Mercy thing. Like, oh well, the world is fucked up. Nice melody and the vocal pads are sweet. Lovester kicking his thing. Brian's voice is great on this one."

more tweeeets

Matthew Horton ‏ @matthewjh
Listening to the new Beach Boys album again. There's a lot that's worthwhile here.

John Mulvey ‏ @JohnRMulvey
@matthewjh "Good vibration" line is rich too. Start and end of LP are OKish I think, Autotune notwithstanding. No worse than recent Bri LPs.

so the news coming out is that the middle songs "bill/sue,shelter/daybreak" are the low sagging point of the album. but that the last 4 end it stellar. best since holland.

beach boys are on jimmy fallon tonight

questlove (drummer of the roots) has been tweeting all day about the beach boys being there. saying pet soudns is better than sgt peppers, pictures of him following brian, pictures of the beach boys performing, generally tweeting pet sounds love. he also called the beach boys "the OG beach boys"

apparently they'll be playing in my room, wouldn't it be nice, and probably that's why god made the radio. apparently brian tries to teach jimmy the harmonies to barbara ann

he's really good. the clips for the album are on itunes. I haven't listened. From what i gather there's quite the lull in the middle of the album. mike love also gives possibly the first so bad it's good lyric

"easy money
ain't life funny
hey what's it to ya?
hallelujah"

also quite a bit of vocal effects in addition to autotune. Apparently brian started liking the sound so parts of some songs have it quite heavily. I haven't listened to the clips myself. Everyone raves about the end songs.

anyway, here's a tweet from a BBC writer

Tim Chipping ‏@timchipping
Obsessing over the last 3 songs on the new Beach Boys album again. Unbelievably great. An actual miracle.

duds were more expected than good songs for sure. I'm excited to hear those end songs, supposed to be super.

they were on charlie rose last week, brian gave up these nuggets:

charlie: *points at brian* "i just remembered, it was chaz palmeri who said, 'the mozart of pop, the orson welles of rock, the george gershwin of his generation'"
brian: "george gershwin i'll buy, but the others i won't" *sly smile wink*

Charlie: what were you closest to, the exuberance or the melancholy? (referring to songs)
Brian: both
Mike: manic depressive!
brian: I can't tell the difference.

it sounds like "isn't it time" and the last 3 are gonna be pretty good actually. like, stuff that i'll listen to repeatedly. the rest reek of jesse & the rippers. i literally feel nauseous every time they self-reference their older stuff ("spring vacation! / good vibrations!"). stabbing at nostalgia does not substantial music make

yeah billy, got love when mike gets to write lyrics, he seems so proud of it too. The lyrics to spring vacation are pretty hilariously bad. That's the only clip i've heard besides the single.

Sweet article about the writing of the album. Apparently there's a big 6+ track suite for brian to finish someday.
