Im watching an 1hr 20 min dealie about google wave... I don't really know anything about it, but it seems like google is pushing to revolutionise email and online communication...

it's hard to say if it's 'worth' watching, but it shows you a lot of the functionality of google wave.

I found like a shortened version of it to watch, but ironically it was unwatchable for me.

I think it's worth watching, because I want to know about google wave, cause it's setting itself up to be pretty important.

one example of waves usefulness...

Lets pretend Eman has a blog, and he wants to upload a bunch of pictures to it. Say 9 pictures. He just creates a new wave, links 9 pictures to the wave (drag n drop from explorer) and then uploads that wave to the blog, where it appears with the blog formatting.

Then I decide to check out emans blog. And the pictures are there...

whilst i am looking at the blog, eman is writing captions for his pictures, and they get uploaded to the blog in real time, so i won't have to refresh the page, it just appears as you do it. Essentially, we're both looking at the same wave, just im looking at it through his blog, and i don't have editing rights...

When you're doing project management stuff, you can see the original file, and see all the editing that has gone on before, and who edited it etc.

Hmm, that seems pretty sweet. I did watch a bit of it, and they just talked about how their emailing system works, and how it's instant messager/emailing/forum all at the same time, which seems cool. Especially the part where your message can be transferred in real time, and there's no "Gooseman is typing..." thing to it.

This is pretty sweet, but I don't see how this is exactly revolutionary.

the final thing they showed was a real time translator...

essentially it's a babelfish for email.

by extension you could be working on an international project and it could translate into 5 different languages simultaneously.

terrorists will love this shit eman, that is where the revolutions will come from.

That translator thing is pretty sweet. I hope it would work better than the Google translator they have now, which isn't very good.

from the extremely brief demo they gave, it looked to be okay...
they've done a lot of work on spell check and stuff, and im assuming that stuff will go into translating too...

but things always get messed up in translations...

he's a much more succinct and entertaining video (though it doesn't go into a lot of depth, google wave has a lot of potential because it's open source and extensible like firefox )

I emailed an eBay seller who was auctioning them off and bought one from him directly for $3.

I only have 2 other people from my address book on Wave and neither of them are close friends. So essentially its useless for me at the moment.
