Dear Puddle of Mudd,

We are writing to inform you that your song, “Psycho” can be offensive to people living with mental illnesses. Your song and music video contribute to the stigmatization of this population. The lyrics and song title send the wrong message to society because it assumes that all people with mental illnesses are “crazy”, paranoid, and dangerous.

We suggest that you further research the nature of mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, in order to completely grasp the emotional, physical, and psychological adversity that this population faces on a daily basis. We are certain that a better understanding of this population will prevent further infection of the American youth with ignorant assumptions.

We understand that all people reserve the right to the freedom of speech, however, we plead that you use extreme caution with your choice of words as they can negatively affect others.

As someone who personally knows someone who is mentally ill (my mother), I can say that the condition of being "psychotic" is one that must be treated delicately. What we ask at this point is that you either pull the song from the airwaves in lieu of another single (perhaps "Livin' On Borrowed Time", my mother enjoys that one), or you release a "radio friendly" version of the song with lyrics that expand further on the graveness of mental illness.

Dear PofM,

I used to enjoy the rock and roll grunge music of the 1990's and I understand that your music is a throwback to that era but with better production values (what were they thinking back then lol). However, unfortunately due to listening to a lot of unprofessionally recorded, sloppily performed music from the original artists (some of whom didn't even bother to dress nicely!) my hearing is not what it once was. Could you please sing your music in a higher register so I can enjoy your authentic raw studio grunge rock and roll radio music hits?!

I met Whit Crane (singer from Ugly Kid Joe) once after his (then) new band, Medication had played in a local rock club in my town.

I wouldn't play there with my band now because it's such a tiny shitty venue, so I don't know what the hell they were thinking.
