Okay, so this thread is only a little bit about the remasters, but it does relate. I've had something I've wanted to share with the boards for a long time, but really didn't know how. Right now I'm in a very open mood, so here it goes:

I'm in Boston now, due to a series of events partially started because of the results of my [shoddy-ish] work on the beginnings. I could do a much better job now, but that's not the point - A little over a year ago, May 2005, I released those tracks to the community, some good, some alright, some horrifically mutilated to the point they actually sounded worse. I didn't care, it was really just something to keep me busy one morning when I couldn't sleep. Either way, the tracks somehow ended up all over the internet, including the main page of Thesuburbs.org.uk, where they were happened upon by what turned out to be an audience of thousands. Out of those thousands, a few e-mailed or IM'ed me, one of which being a girl named Melissa with whom I ended up staying in contact with.

Periodic messages became nightly, nightly became nearly continuous, and soon we were calling each other. I kept my guard up as I did not want to fall for someone 500 miles away, but I knew she was someone very different from the people I was used to. Melissa went away for a while to Hawaii on vacation, all while I tried to convince myself that it was a stupid internet crush (shut up, you know you've had them from time to time, too) until she "borrowed" her dad's business cellphone and called me from there. Things kind of went from there, though we never talked about it directly for many months until it came up in conversation. Turns out she was going through pretty much the same thing, though also trying to avoid the inevitably failing concept of long distance relationship. Things changed somewhat when we met up by chance while I was on the Jersey coast, and I realized how perfect she actually was for me.

Skip ahead a few months: I had decided that I needed to leave Ohio, but I did not know where. I had friends here in Boston, and it had been one of my considerations. This was cemented when I realized that Melissa would be here, too, along with all of the engineering and music students I could ever hope to collaborate with.

I'm writing this because I just got back from spending another weekend with her, and I already want to make the 25 minute trek through traffic to see her again.

All of this because I decided to stay up and fuck with a few old Ben Folds tracks.

I was on the coast for an unrelated reason - I decided to drive my friend Diana back to her house as an excuse to get out of Ohio. When I was talking to Melissa one night from Diana's house, I was telling her where in Jersey I was and we realized we were less than 30 minutes apart. She called me from school that day and had me pick her up from the parking lod that afternoon. It was only somewhat planned. Our first date was to an art museum :D

No, she used to live in Delaware. It wasn't even on my mind at the time when I was going to jersey that she was nearby, though I had planned to make a trip up there from my uncle's house eventually when I was to visit my uncle. She came to Boston for college, and I came here to get away from Ohio, though as I said, my choice of cities was definitely influenced by the fact that she was here.

Which is why you (unsuccessfully) keep your guard up to try and avoid that person being the one who is worth it. And then fail at that attempt and realise you're probably moving interstate.
